HOW TO BE A GREAT OAP
In 2012, Ronke Giwa also known as
Ronnie G was awarded with the “Certificate of Honour” as NBMA Most popular
Radio Presenter in Nigeria (South-West) courtesy of her show “Morning Splash”
on Splash Fm 105.5 Ibadan. The sexy Diva who graced the air waves with her
unique voice and aura right from when she started the programme “Touch a Soul” on the Night shift at
Splash.
Roke Giwa, a professional Mc at
A-List Events in the country, has won the allegiance of Radio listeners in the
south West as many look up to her in the Industry.
Few Days ago, she gave out tips
on how to be a great OAP.
“I am still growing and still
learning but I have learnt so much on this journey of mine in the media
Indsutry and would like to share my little experience and what I have learnt
with everyone and anyone with aspirations as a radio personality” she said
So find below some tips on how to
be a great OAP;
1.
Be
Passionate
To be a great
OAP, you have to want it. Passion is the driving force. It keeps ou going when
the road seems tough.
2.
Read
A Lot
Knowledge is
vital to grab the attention of listeners. Have something to say that people
look forward to hearing. You need to read a lot as well; Books, Magazines,
Newspapers because you have to know something about everything.
3.
Be
open to criticism
Once on a Programme,
someone called in to correct me about a word I had wrongly pronounced. It was
quite embarrassing but, hey, its part of the job. You must be lowly enough to
admit that you are wrong when corrected.
4.
Get a
Mentor
Edmund Obilo my
colleague was the first person to believe in me. There are people you admire,
learn and grab the nitty gritty from them as they are already a player in the
game. Like the saying goes, “Iron sharpeneth Iron”
5.
Get A
Degree
I didn’t study
mass communication but I studied English and used to practice speaking very
well. A lot of the people I love did not study Mass Communication, so even
though I would encourage you to study it if you can, you can still do some
training at the FRCN Training school in Lagos.
